At the supermarket, I was engaged in picking up stuff and gradually placing it in the basket.
“How much is this for?” - I heard this voice near my ears.
Turned around to respond – “I am not working here. I am a customer”
Just when I finish my response, my eye met the eye of a 15 something girl in an ordinary looking pale dress. Her hairdo was untidy, covering a portion of her face that seemed to have a sparkle hidden beneath
Innocently, she asked me again, but in different words – “Can you please tell me the price that is printed here? I cannot read”
I grabbed the product to check the price and answered – “109”
Her expression that was full of enthusiasm until now suddenly turned into a despair
Observing she was holding something tightly in her fist, I enquired – “What happened? How may I help you?”
She opened her fist slowly mentioning – “I have only 90”
Quickly enough I expressed – “No worries, let’s go to the cash counter and I shall pay the remaining 19, but I have only digital currency and partial payment might not be possible”
Her expression bounced back and she immediately handed over her 90 to me silently quoting that I can pay the full amount and keep her 90 with me.
I didn’t want to let her self-esteem go down so without an argument I slid the money in my pocket
While I was wondering about her trust and confidence on me, I noticed a trolly next to her. That trolly had only 3 small chocolate bars in it.
I asked – “Ah! Have you picked up these things as well?”
She nodded positively.
I questioned – “Do you have money for that?”
She just put her head down. I could comprehend.
I virtually nudged her towards the billing desk and requested the person to show me the QR code for the payment, once it is ready.
As I left the Supermarket with a mixed bag of feelings, a question cropped up – “What should I do with the 90 bucks?”
Temple flashed in front of my eyes, stepped ahead and I conveyed “him” that this tiny yet the most loveliest offering is from the cutest little girl.
